(CNN) A fire broke out near an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, creating a huge ring of flames at sea. According to Mexican state-owned oil company Pemex, the fire was extinguished after about five and a half hours. The giant ring was called “flame eyes” on SNS, and an image similar to orange lava was diffused. The site is near the Pemex offshore drilling facility off Campeche in the southeastern part of the country. According to the company, a fire broke out at around 5:15 am on the 2nd due to a gas leak from an underwater pipeline. No one was evacuated or injured from the facility. According to Reuters, Mexican safety regulators tweeted that “there was no oil leak,” but did not explain what burned at sea. According to Reuters, Pemex said it had closed a pipeline about 30 centimeters in diameter and said it would investigate the cause. Many large-scale accidents have occurred at the company’s facility in the past.
